Sasan Gir (Gujarat, western India) is the only place on Earth where Asiatic Lions still roam wild. Officially Gir National Park & Sanctuary, this 1,412 sq km protected area is the last refuge of the Asiatic Lion (Panthera leo persica) – population now over 600 after near-extinction in the early 1900s.
